The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has established the International Database on Irradiated Nuclear Graphite Properties in collaboration with interested IAEA Member States and organizations in Member States recognized by those States. The database consists of data on the physical, chemical, mechanical and other relevant properties of irradiated nuclear graphites contributed by Member States and organizations from the Graphite Database Members.

The operation of the International Database on Irradiated Nuclear Graphite Properties is financed by voluntary contributions from the Graphite Database Members, Associate Members and Database Sponsors and is maintained by the Atomic and Molecular Data Unit in the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications.

News

Phase 2 Programme
The process of gathering data on the properties of irradiated graphites will be completed in summer 2009. This will end Phase 1 Programme. It is proposed to extend the project beyond summer 2009 to fulfil remaining needs of Members States (Phase 2 Programme). Phase 2 mission statement is available in Appendix A of the Steering Committee March 2009 Meeting Report Phase 2 Summary Document

Quality Assurance
Consideration has been given to the process of Quality Assurance applied to data entered into current versions of the on Irradiated Nuclear Graphite Properties. The processes employed in the data transcription and evaluation are described in the INDC-NDS-500 report

Purpose and Objectives of the Graphite Database

The purpose of the Graphite Database is to preserve and further expand the existing scientific information on the physical, chemical, mechanical and other properties of irradiated graphites (including zero dose) relevant for nuclear power, nuclear safety and other nuclear science and technology applications, and to create a comprehensive international source for such information, including reference data.

The Graphite Database is intended to:

  • facilitate the development of national and international programmes on graphite moderated reactors and fusion technologies
  • assist the safety authorities in the assessment of safety aspects of graphite moderated reactors, including the safety aspects of reactor decommissioning
  • serve as a comprehensive source of scientific information for a broad range of material science applications, including the non-nuclear technology areas.
